Transition issue 111, “New Narratives of Haiti,” presents essays and poetry on Haiti by leading writers, scholars, and journalists—including Gina Ulysse, Madison Smartt Bell, and Jonathan Katz—and features translations of works by Franketienne, Lyonel Trouillot, and Michel-Rolph Trouillot. On Friday, May 3, 2013 Laurent Dubois and Kaiama L. Glover, guest editors, will briefly introduce and read short selections from the issue at the Harvard Book Store. 

This event is taking place in conjunction with the Boston-wide celebration of the Sesquicentennial of the Emancipation Proclamation and the impact of the Haitian Revolution on the antislavery movement and the U.S. Civil War. For more information on all associated events, please visit
